“1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 vs 1972 Pontiac GTO. Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race. Factory Stock Drag Race. Factory Appearing Stock Tire. First car is a 1970 Chevy Camaro Z28, and the other a 1972 Pontiac GTO. The 1972 GTO has a 455 H.O. V8 engine. The 1970 Z28 has a LT-1 350 V8. The 455 H.O. was rated 300 NET horsepower, while the LT-1 350 was rated 360 GROSS horsepower. The 1970 Camaro z28 has a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission, and the GTO has a 4-speed manual transmission. The z28 Camaro weighs 3716 pounds, including the driver. On the other hand, the GTO weighs 3950 pounds with the driver included. Rear gearing in the Camaro z28 is 4.10, while the ’72 GTO has 3.55. Car and Driver tested a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro z28 with a set of 4.10 gears and an automatic transmission and it ran 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, and the quarter mile in 14.2 seconds @ 100.3 mph. There were only 310 4-speed 455 H.O. equipped 1970 GTOs produced. There were 8733 total 1970 Camaro Z28s produced.”
